Builder Capital – A New Approach to Funding Social Enterprise

We want to see a world where those social enterprises capable of providing alternative, innovative and thorough business solutions to social need are able to access capital which provides them with the capacity they require and buys them time to find and develop markets for the social impact they can deliver.

We believe that the reality of current social finance funding, from the standpoint of the social enterprise, is that the money currently on offer doesn’t fit with what is required – it is the wrong sort of money.

So what does the right sort of money for funding social enterprise look like?  

This article briefly explains what Builder Capital is, why it is needed, and how investors who provide it can benefit while helping social enterprises achieve financial sustainability.

Financing Social Enterprise: The Role of Builder Capital

 The provision of services to meet social need currently has two key drivers in the UK:

  1. The need to cut the cost of providing services within existing public sector funded markets.
  2. The need to innovate to find new ways of meeting need in markets that have changed significantly in recent years

These drivers demand very different approaches to allocating capital appropriately and hence different funding models.
